In the summer of 2007, the Rideau Canal gained well-deserved attention when it was designated a United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization World Heritage Site. As the most recent of fourteen UNESCO Sites in Canada, the Rideau Canal has, at its heart, the community of Smiths Falls. With this designation comes much responsibility.As a community in the Canal's midst, we become responsible for presenting the history and vitality of our community in a unique and positive way. Guests will be visiting from all over the world. As our community moves into the future we need to ensure that each visitor, potential resident and business person sees Smiths Falls in an optimistic light. The positive ambience and the accessibility of Sensational Smiths Falls need to be at the forefront of our thoughts and actions.
